TIPS AND TRICKS ON GROWING GREAT ROSES
John Hefner

For over 50 years John and Donna Hefner have grown the most beautiful, award winning roses as well as bringing great leadership and inspiration to our society. As a retired educator, John is a natural born teacher and will share some of his best tips and tricks for growing beautiful roses. 

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: 
At each meeting we have a round table discussion. Bring your questions and comments about what’s going on in your garden! Together we will celebrate success and deal with issues!

MY WORK WITH ROSES
Dr. Malcolm Manners, Retired Professor at Florida Southern College

PROGRAM:
Malcolm will give us his introduction to Florida Southern College and how he became interested in roses, his work with rose mosaic virus disease and the redevelopment of the original garden into the Jane Elizabeth Jenkins Rose Garden and the development of Ruth’s Rose Garden. 

We are excited to learn from one of the world leading authorities on roses who was the recipient of the 2013 Great Rosarian of the World award for his extensive research in treating rose viruses and maintaining older rose varieties. And, who just happens to now be a member of our rose society. 

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION: 
At each meeting we have a round table discussion. Bring your questions and comments about what’s going on in your garden! Together we will celebrate success and deal with issues!

ABOUT THE EVENING:

Join for a casual evening to end our year with good food and rose friends. We will celebrate and reminisce about all we accomplished in 2025. We will introduce our 2026 board, discuss future plans and honor those who have served above and beyond. Dinner will be provided.

WHAT YOU CAN BRING:

Please bring a dessert or drink of your choice, your comments on meetings and events of 2025 and your creative ideas for 2026. And, as always bring your questions and comments about growing roses, our “round table” is always open to share tips and tricks.

🌹NOTE: Those who have won medals from the American Rose Society and our society should wear them. We want to see your bling!

ABOUT THE AWARD (FROM ARS WEBSITE)

Each District of the American Rose Society may annually award the American Rose Society Silver Honor Medal to any ARS member who is an official member of that District who, in the opinion of the District Awards Committee, has provided meritorious service to the rose and its culture, for efforts expended in support of the American Rose Society and its objectives within the District.
